It's been long enough that people don't care as much and so they have no reason to be doing damage control anymore.

Pretty much all the dust has settled on the Zestiria fiasco in Japan. Keep in mind this was during the time when they were not promoting Rose at all because Japanese fandom didn't like her, they were toning down the Alisha because they were being accused of false advertising for pushing her so hard in the game's lead up, and Mikleo was pretty much the next important character in the lineup-certainly none of the other characters would make any sense standing next to Sorey.Д«ut honestly, the most telling thing about the 'canon' status of the relationship is how they handle it now. They kind of embraced the whole slash fangirls thing by doing things like (apparently-I'm not familiar with the artist) hiring a known BL artist to do the Zestiria manga adaptation and they quietly replaced Alisha with Mikleo on most paired merchandise, so usually where you see the hero and heroine (Lloyd and Colette, Yuri and Estelle, Jude and Milla, etc.), it was Sorey and Mikleo. And I can only assume they didn't want to rock the boat amongst the female fans who really latched onto the game because of suremiku. People were livid about the Alisha thing in Japan. The close relationship between Sorey and Mikleo was about the only thing that was well-received about the game when it came out. They were VERY quiet about the whole thing beyond that. I mean, I understand that in the Perfect Guide, Baba went out of his way in an interview to say they were each other's 'most important person' (I think that was the exact phrasing-I don't have the book myself though, I just read scans a while ago) and also stated that even though the game starts with a 'boy meets girl' storyline, a typical M/F relationship wouldn't feel right for the game but. That post was written 11 months ago-so basically still right after the game came out, while Bamco was still being very careful (and quiet) about Zestiria.
